Sameer Wankhede, born on December 14, 1979, in Maharashtra, India, is an Indian civil servant renowned for his contributions as an officer in the Indian Revenue Service (Custom & Indirect Taxes). Hailing from a middle-class family, Wankhede demonstrated a strong interest in social issues and governance during his formative years.
After completing his primary and secondary education in Maharashtra, Wankhede pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree, graduating in 2001 from Ramnarain Ruia College. Nawab Malik, a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) politician, has made claims regarding Sameer Wankhede’s religious background and marital status. In a series of accusations, Malik asserted that Wankhede was initially raised as a Muslim, carrying the full name Sameer Dawood Wankhede. However, Malik alleges that Wankhede forged documents to secure a position in the Indian Revenue Services under the Scheduled Caste category. As of 19th May 2023, the SET report reveals that Sameer Wankhede’s average annual income, as per his income tax filings, amounts to approximately Rs 15.75 lakh, including salary and rent. His wife, Kranti, reports an annual income of around Rs 7 lakh from her business, while his father’s income, derived from pension and rent, is approximately Rs 3.45 lakh.

In 2011, actress Bipasha Basu faced scrutiny at Mumbai International Airport under Wankhede’s team. She was fined for not declaring imported valuables worth Rs 60 lakh, highlighting Wankhede’s commitment to ensuring compliance with customs regulations.
