Many fans pointed out the potential racial undertones in her comments, highlighting the prevalence of concerns about tap water safety in various developing countries, including India. The backlash was swift, with some labeling Radanovic as racist for her remarks.

Responding to the accusations, Dejana Radanovic took to her Instagram to clarify her stance. She asserted that her comments were not motivated by racism but were merely expressions of her personal dislikes regarding certain aspects of her experience in India.

In her Instagram post, Radanovic listed specific grievances, mentioning her dislike for the country’s food, traffic, and hygiene conditions, including issues like worms in the food, yellow pillows, and dirty bed linen in her hotel. She questioned the audience, asking whether disliking similar aspects in one’s own country would also be deemed racist.

Radanovic further emphasized her diverse friendships, stating that she has friends from various nationalities and backgrounds. She warned against unfounded accusations and deemed them “absolute nonsense.” According to Radanovic, 95% of people visiting India from different parts of the world find it challenging to adapt to the distinctive lifestyle.

She clarified that her criticism of certain aspects of India did not extend to disliking its people. On the contrary, she claimed to have a positive experience with individuals during her previous visits, sharing an anecdote about a person who drove her on a tuk-tuk to the courts, with whom she had dinners and shared pleasant moments.

Radanovic concluded her statement by asserting that personal preferences regarding people are universal and not tied to race or nationality, reiterating that her critique was specific to certain aspects of her time in India.

This clarification comes amidst the ongoing debate surrounding athletes and public figures expressing their opinions about the places they visit, highlighting the fine line between personal criticism and potential implications of racism.
