Manoj Jarange Patil‘s hard work for the Maratha community’s reservation movement has come to an end.
The state government issued a new rule today about this. It explains the term “Sagesoyre,” which was an important part of the Maratha reservation movement. Sagesoyre relatives now include a person’s father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and other relatives from past generations, including those from inter-caste and same-sex marriages, as clarified by the new rule.
This rule was published in the Maharashtra Government Gazette on January 26th. It’s called the Maharashtra Scheduled Castes, Freed Castes, Nomadic Tribes, Other Backward Classes, and Special Backward Classes rule, specifically addressing Sagesoyre. According to this rule, Sagesoyre relatives include a person’s father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and other relatives from past generations, including those from inter-caste and same-sex marriages.
There’s a mention of an affidavit: Kunbi caste certificates will be immediately issued to blood relatives of citizens who already have Kunbi registration, if they provide an affidavit as evidence. Relatives of citizens with Kunbi registration will also be verified for Kunbi caste certificates. If the proof of blood relationship of registered Kunbi citizens is confirmed, certificates will be issued according to the rules.
All relatives of Maratha brothers with Kunbi records will receive Kunbi caste certificates based on those records.
