Despite previous assurances from the state government, the circular has not been implemented, leading Jarange Patil to resume his hunger strike.
Reports indicate that Jarange Patil’s health has deteriorated significantly as he continues his hunger strike. Despite concerns for his well-being, he has refused medical treatment.

There is confusion regarding the announcement of a Maharashtra Bandh on February 14. While messages are circulating on social media claiming such a bandh has been called for by the Maratha community, there has been no official announcement from Manoj Jarange Patil regarding this matter.
The support for Jarange Patil’s hunger strike and the Maharashtra Bandh is evident from the involvement of various local leaders and organizations, such as the Sakal Maratha Samaj and Maratha Kranti Morcha Maharashtra.
The resignation of Ashokrao and the tweet by Sanjay Raut, indicating a shift in political alliances or support, further highlights the complexity and dynamics of the situation.
The situation remains tense as the Maratha community continues to push for their demands, with Jarange Patil’s health condition adding urgency to their cause.
Maharashtra Government Notification Kunbi Ancestry for Marathas, Activist’s Demand Met
The government issued a notification about the rules for issuing these certificates. It’s called the Maharashtra Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, De-Notified Tribes, Nomadic Tribes, Other Backward Classes and Special Backward Category (Regulation of Issuance and Verification of) Caste Certificate (Amendment) Rules, 2024.
According to the notification, Kunbi caste certificates will be given after applicants provide an affidavit proving their relationship to blood relatives such as uncles, nephews, and other family members. This also includes “patriarchal” relatives whose Kunbi records prove they’re related to the applicant.
Once a field inquiry and verification are done, the Kunbi caste certificates will be issued promptly. The term ‘sage soyare’ refers to relatives like the applicant’s father, grandfather, great grandfather, and earlier generations who had marriages within the same caste.
Aarakshan percentage in Maharashtra, Amidst discussions on Maratha reservation, the OBC Mahasangh has cautioned the state government against including Marathas in the OBC category, emphasizing serious consequences. Conversely, the Akhil Bharatiya Maratha Mahasangh advocates for an increase in the OBC quota from 27% to 42%, suggesting that the additional 15% could be utilized to incorporate Marathas within the OBC framework, as highlighted by Sambhaji Dahatonde Patil, the general secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Maratha Mahasangh.
