The Haj Committee of India, also referred to as the Central Haj Committee (CHC), is a governmental body in India responsible for organizing Islamic pilgrimages to Saudi Arabia. Established under the Haj Committee Act in 2002, this committee serves as the primary authority for managing Haj pilgrimages, coordinating with state-level Haj committees.
The committee comprises 23 members, including six elected representatives from state Haj committees, four ex-official members, three Members of Parliament (MPs), seven nominees appointed by the central government, and additional members from the state with the highest number of pilgrims. In 2016, India was allocated a quota of 136,200 pilgrims, with the Haj Committee arranging travel for 100,200 of them. The distribution of the quota is done on a state-by-state basis, taking into account the Muslim population density according to the 2011 census.
