In a tragic turn of events, Balochistan province witnessed profound sorrow on the eve of Pakistan general elections, with two separate explosions targeting election candidates resulting in at least 25 lives lost and over 40 individuals injured.
The initial blast occurred outside the office of independent candidate Asfand Yar Khan Kakar in Pishin, claiming the lives of at least 15 people and leaving over 30 others wounded. Simultaneously, a second explosion unfolded outside the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) office in the Killa Saifullah district.
The aftermath of the blasts prompted an emergency response across hospitals in Quetta, where additional staff has been urgently summoned to cope with the influx of casualties. As the injured, many in critical condition, are transferred to various medical facilities, operation theaters at the Trauma Centre, Civil Hospital, BMC, Benazir, and Sheikh Zayed Hospital stand prepared to provide immediate treatment.

Notably, the independent candidate Asfand Yar Khan Kakar was fortunately not present in his office at the time of the explosion in Pishin’s Khanozai area, where the incident unfolded. Kakar, contesting elections from NA-265 constituency and Balochistan Assembly constituencies PB-47 and PB-48, described the blast as originating from a motorcycle parked outside his election office.
In response to the grave situation, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken prompt action, seeking a report from Balochistan’s chief secretary and Inspector General of Police (IGP). Directives have been issued by the ECP to take decisive action against those involved in these distressing incidents, which have cast a somber shadow on the electoral process.
