Aurangabad Truck Gas Leak Incident -Situation Under Control on Jalna Road

The state government’s plan to rename Aurangabad district, city, taluka, and village to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Osmanabad to Dharashiv faces a roadblock as the Election Commission orders that the constituency names stay unchanged for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
Currently, a hearing is underway in the Bombay High Court regarding the proposed renaming of Aurangabad city and Osmanabad city. The implementation of the code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections is expected to commence next month.
The decision on the petitions challenging the state government’s notification to rename Aurangabad and Osmanabad districts as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and Dharashiv respectively was reserved by the High Court. After all parties concluded their arguments on Wednesday, the court reserved its verdict. Initially, the petitioners had filed petitions in the High Court against the proposed renaming of Aurangabad and Osmanabad districts, sub-divisions, and revenue areas.
However, as the state government had not issued a final notification regarding the renaming at that time, the court disposed of all the petitions on August 30. Subsequently, the state government issued the notification to officially rename the districts. Therefore, the decision on the petitions was pending the High Court’s verdict after the completion of arguments.
Initially, it was anticipated that the new constituency names would be finalized during the election preparation phase. However, the Election Commission has confirmed that the constituencies will retain their existing names. The old names of the constituencies in the Aurangabad district are explicitly mentioned in the voter list.

Although the proposal for the name change has been submitted to the Election Commission of India, no official correspondence regarding the name change has been received thus far. Consequently, the old names continue to be used on the voter list, and the Vidhan Parishad Constituency will also maintain its current name.
The State Election Commission has communicated with the Central Election Commission, clarifying that only Aurangabad and Osmanabad will be the names of these constituencies. According to the rules of the Delimitation Commission, census and restructuring of constituencies will not occur until after 2026.
Therefore, the constituency names will remain unchanged until then, including Osmanabad. As a result, the new MP/MLA will be designated in Aurangabad and Osmanabad constituencies exclusively.
