Former Shiv Sena Corporator Abhishek Ghosalkar Shot Dead on Facebook Live in IC Colony, Mauris had invited Abhishek for a joint address where both pledged to contribute to social welfare.

In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through Mumbai, former Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator Abhishek Ghosalkar was shot dead in the heart of IC Colony, Borivali West on Thursday evening. The suspect, identified as businessman Morris Noronha, was discovered lifeless at the scene, with authorities leaning towards the theory of suicide.

Abhishek, the scion of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Vinod Ghosalkar, hailed from a political family deeply entrenched in the Dahisar area. Vinod, a former MLA from Dahisar (2009-2014) and a corporator, along with his son, had wielded significant influence in the region. Adding to the political prominence, Abhishek’s wife Tejaswee was also a former corporator.

Mauris Noronha, eyeing a political future, was gearing up to contest the BMC elections from ward number 1. However, his aspirations were marred by a longstanding and acrimonious history of disputes with Abhishek.

The fatal incident unfolded during a seemingly collaborative Facebook Live session at approximately 7:30 pm. Morris had invited Abhishek for a joint address where both pledged to contribute to social welfare, promising the distribution of saris and food grains to impoverished families in the Borivali-Dahisar belt.

Despite no longer holding an official position, Abhishek’s popularity remained undiminished in the IC Colony area. Known for organizing community gatherings and facilitating transportation for locals to pilgrimage sites, Abhishek and his wife had garnered immense support, particularly from the Catholic community. Pilgrimage trips to the Mount Mary Basilica during the Mount Mary Fair in September and to the Infant Jesus shrine in Nashik every February were among their notable initiatives.

The aftermath of the tragedy took a political turn when MP Sanjay Raut vehemently demanded the resignation of Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Raut criticized the alleged influence of gangsters in Maharashtra, accusing the government of colluding with them. Expressing his dismay, Raut emphasized the urgency of addressing the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, particularly in light of the shocking shooting of Abhishek Ghosalkar.

As the investigation unfolds, the incident has raised concerns not only about the safety of public figures but also about the broader implications for the political landscape in Maharashtra.
