Aurangabad ATM News
The Aurangabad city police, already facing challenges due to rising crime, confronted a new test as thieves targeted and broke into two ATMs, attempting to break a third on the same day. The city has been buzzing with news of an interstate gang that broke into ATMs at two different locations within one and a half hours on Sunday midnight, making off with lakhs of rupees.
The incidents occurred in the Walaj area, where HDFC Bank’s ATMs in Ranjangaon and SBI’s ATMs in Kanchanwadi were targeted. Thieves successfully looted Rs 22.77 lakh from the Kanchanwadi ATM center. Interestingly, during the same time, a thief attempted to break into the SBI ATM in the N-2 area but fled after failing.
First Event:
Aurangabad ATM News, The first incident occurred at Kanchanwadi on the Aurangabad-Paithan road at 2 o’clock on Sunday night. The SBI Bank’s ATM center in Shivneri Complex on the main road was broken into. A group of four to five people parked their car at some distance from the ATM center. Upon reaching the ATM, the thieves first sprayed the CCTV, then used a gas cutter to break the cash tray and stole Rs 22,77,500. The police were informed when the incident came to light in the morning. Inspector Ashok Giri and the crime branch officers reached the spot, registering a case and launching an investigation.
Another Incident:
Another incident unfolded at Jaibhavani Chowk in Bajaj Nagar of the Walaj area, where an HDFC Bank ATM was broken into. Thieves entered the ATM area around 2:30 midnight on Sunday. Initially, they sprayed the CCTV camera, broke the power supply, and entered inside. Using a gas cutter, they broke the ATM and emptied the cash from the wallet. The total amount stolen from this place was not immediately known. Inspector Avinash Aghav inspected the spot, and it is believed that the same gang was behind both the Kanchanwadi and Bajajnagar ATM break-ins.
Companies’ Negligence:
Responsibility for city ATMs is assigned to different private companies by the bank. However, many ATMs lack proper security measures. Some lack security guards, while others lack a reliable alarm system. In some cases, there are ATMs without CCTV. Due to this negligence by companies, such incidents have frequently occurred. The burden of addressing this issue ultimately falls on the police system.
