Admission Eligibility
Domicile –
Candidates must provide a domicile certificate issued by the government of Maharashtra/Belgavi/Bider/Karwar to confirm their candidacy.
Age Limit, Sex, and Marital Status – Only unmarried male candidates are eligible to apply. The candidate must be born within the dates specified in the yearly advertisement.
Educational Qualifications-
Candidates currently studying in the 10th standard under the State/CBSE/ICSE or equivalent educational pattern with English, Physics, Chemistry (or General Science), and Mathematics as subjects are eligible to participate in the SPI Entrance Examination.
It is mandatory for them to attain a minimum of 60% marks in their 10th-grade examination. Additionally, candidates should have achieved a minimum of 60% marks in their VII, VIII, and IX standard examinations.
Physical Standards –
Candidates applying to SPI need to meet specific physical standards to ensure they are medically fit for defence academies. The following are the general guidelines for physical standards:
- Height: 157 cms
- Weight: 43 Kg
- Chest: Without expansion: 74 cms, expansion: 5 cm (minimum)
- Eye Sight: 6/6 in a distant vision chart with the better eye and 6/9 in the worse eye. Myopia less than 2.00 and hypermetropia less than 2.00, including Astigmatism. Good binocular vision is required. Candidates should not be night blind and color blind and must be able to recognize red and green colors. (For details, refer to any previous UPSC NDA notification)
Selected candidates are required to provide a “Medical Fitness Certificate” signed by a qualified Registered Medical Practitioner at the time of joining. A separate medical test will be conducted at SPI for candidates within the first few days after joining, and only those declared ‘Fit’ by this panel will continue at SPI.
Fee structure for SPI (Services Preparatory Institute):
- Boarding Charges:
- A sum, currently Rs. 3000/- per month, is charged for six months in advance towards boarding charges.
- It needs to be paid at the beginning of each term.
- Security Deposit:
- An amount of Rs 3000/- (Rs. 1500/- for SC/ST candidates) is collected at the time of joining.
- It will be refunded only if the cadet joins any of the Defense Academies at any stage in life.
- College Fees:
- College fees for 11th and 12th class, along with other charges decided by the college, will be paid by parents/guardians through SPI.
- Cadet Expenditure:
- Cadets have to pay additional expenses for their kit, training visits, training aids, barber and washerman charges, newspapers & periodicals, etc.
- Penalty Clause:
- If a cadet leaves SPI after joining, the complete fees once paid WILL NOT be refunded.
- Additionally, a penalty, to be decided later, will be applicable at the time of departure.

To apply for SPI, follow these steps:
- Visit the official SPI website.
- Click on the “Registration” tab on the Home Page.
- Follow the instructions provided for the online application.
- Fill out the SPI Application Form online.
Make sure to complete the registration process as per the instructions on the website. Online submission is the only method for applying to SPI.
Here are the important dates for the SPI Aurangabad (Services Preparatory Institute) entrance examination:
- Last Date for Application: February 29, 2024
- Exam Date: April 28, 2024
- Hall Ticket Availability: From April 10, 2024
Make sure to complete your application before the specified last date and download your hall ticket well in advance of the examination date.
Important Instructions for SPI Application:
- Register on the SPI website before filling the form.
- Use your 12-digit Aadhar number as the User ID for registration.
- Set the password as your Date of Birth in (dd/mm/yyyy) format.
- Complete the application form and pay the exam fees (Rs. 450/-) within 48 hours of registration. Failure to do so will result in automatic deletion, requiring re-registration.
- If applying from a cyber café, use your own mobile number and email ID, not those of the café personnel.
- The entrance exam is MCQ type with 150 questions in two parts, and the total time allotted is 3 hours. Each question carries 4 marks, with a maximum of 600 marks. Details are available on the SPI website.
- There is a negative marking system. Correct answers receive (+) 4 marks, and wrong answers incur (-) 1 mark. No marks are given for unattempted questions.
- Bring the original Aadhar card for examination verification.
- Do not change the provided mobile number and email ID until the admission procedure is complete.
- Interviews for selected candidates will take place from the first week of May 2024. Changes to dates or centers will not be allowed.
