The State Waqf Board has accomplished a successful bidding process for the Parbhani Dargah urs (ceremony) and secured a remarkable bid of Rs 2.86 crore. This marks the first time an e-tender was conducted for the urs, even though there was opposition from the Shiv Sena state minority president.

Last year, the open bidding process had earned the Waqf board Rs 2.4 crore. The Sayyad Turabul Haq Dargah, hosting a century-old urs, symbolizes unity between Hindus and Muslims. Every year, the event gathers over 10 lakh people from all over the country. The urs also attracts artists and traders who seek space to conduct brisk business.
A senior Waqf board official explained, “For years, shops at each urs were being given out at throwaway prices, denting the earnings of the Waqf. Conducting e-bidding for the first time resulted in record-breaking earnings.”
Turabul Haq Dargah is a tomb dedicated to the Sufi saint Turabul Haq, also known as Turatpeer Baba, who spent much of his final days in Parbhani.
The Dargah is famous for its annual fair, which has a rich history spanning 108 years. From February 2 to February 15 each year, thousands of followers from various religions and faiths come together. In Parbhani, this Dargah stands as a symbol of unity among different religions, drawing people from across the state.
Many followers claim that their wishes have come true after visiting this Dargah. Due to its immense popularity in Maharashtra, it is often referred to as the “Ajmer Sharif of Maharashtra.” Thousands of people, including those seeking healing, visit the Dargah. In the 2015 festival season between February 2 and February 15, it is estimated that nearly half a million people visited the Dargah.
Parbhani is located in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra, approximately 550 kilometers (340 mi) from Mumbai, 200 kilometers (120 mi) from Aurangabad, and 345 kilometers (214 mi) from Hyderabad. The city is well-connected by roads and trains to various cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Amritsar, Bhopal, New Delhi, Nagpur, and Pune.
The nearest airports to Parbhani are Aurangabad Airport and Nanded Airport.
Not everyone was pleased with the Waqf board’s decision to make the bidding process transparent and open to all. Last December, Shiv Sena state minority president Saeed Khan opposed the conditions in the e-tendering process and demanded its cancellation. On January 4 this year, the state minority development department instructed the Waqf board to suspend the tender process. However, the Waqf board persisted, with CEO MB Tashildar reaching out to the Chief Minister to address concerns at the ground level before receiving final approval and conducting a successful bidding process.
