Manoj Jarange Patil, the prominent face advocating for Maratha reservations, has rallied an estimated 3 crore Marathas to converge on Mumbai from January 20 onwards, marking a demand for rightful community reservations. Assuring a non-violent demonstration, Patil urged Maharashtra citizens to participate using any means of transport, assuring no confiscation of vehicles, reported IANS.
“Our people from towns and villages across Maharashtra will journey—by foot, bus, vehicle, or tractor. It’s a peaceful march without stones or violence,” Patil affirmed in the IANS report.
Starting from his hometown, Patil anticipates a growing crowd along the route, culminating at Azad Maidan in South Mumbai. In case of hindrance, he hinted at encircling the homes of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai and Nagpur.
“If obstructed, thousands will encircle the Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister’s residences,” Patil stated firmly.
Acknowledging Mumbai’s space constraints, Patil stressed securing multiple grounds for the anticipated turnout, prioritizing bookings despite potential hurdles, IANS reported.
Dismissing the government’s proposed special session in February 2024 for reservation announcements, Patil expressed dissatisfaction with the delayed response to their demands.
Asserting the community’s stand, Patil reiterated the call for Kunbi Caste (OBC) certificates, underscoring their unwavering commitment to the cause until rightful reservations are granted.
“Our focus is Mumbai for the quotas. There’s no turning back. We’re heading to Mumbai and returning with our reservations,” Patil declared, urging unified support and calling upon all followers to join the rally, setting aside differences.
Patil, whose protests earlier sparked unrest in Jalna district, emphasized the government’s prolonged delay, declaring they wouldn’t offer an extra hour beyond the deadline set for reservation declarations.
Manoj Jarange, a resident of Matori village in Beed district, has been an ardent advocate for Maratha reservation for over a decade. His commitment to this cause didn’t waver even after relocating from Beed to Ambad in Jalanya. In his pursuit, he went to lengths such as selling agricultural property to financially support various demonstrations, marches, protests, and hunger strikes aimed at advancing the cause of Maratha reservation.
Jarange Patil maintained his dedication to the Maratha quota cause, often balancing labor-intensive fieldwork and employment in hotels to sustain himself. Despite his full-time involvement in advocating for the Maratha quota, he remained steadfast in maintaining ties with his family. Over time, Manoj Jarange Patil gained recognition as an assertive advocate, known for his active and persistent campaign in support of the Maratha community’s reservation rights.
