Prior to the government’s approval, citizens and activists had engaged in agitation, including indefinite hunger strikes in December 2012, urging the state government to address the long-standing demand for the construction of the Haj House in Aurangabad.

Of the allocated budget, Rs 29 crore was designated for the construction of the Haj House. Foundation stone-laying ceremonies were held to kick off the building process. Chief Minister Chavan, along with officials like Municipal Commissioner Harshadeep Kamble, District Collector, and Cidco Administrator Sunil Kendrekar, worked diligently to expedite the project. Chavan directed officials to initiate the tendering process for construction before the end of the month, with a clear objective of commencing construction work by July 15th.
