Curfew Imposed in Jalna District

Curfew Imposed in Jalna District to Maintain Law and Order, The decision is primarily driven by concerns that individuals might converge on Antarwali Sarati village in Jalna

In a recent development, the state of Maharashtra is grappling with rising tensions as Maratha activist Manoj Jarange Patil calls for a protest march to Mumbai. The situation has led to the imposition of a curfew in Jalna district, particularly in Ambad taluka, to safeguard public safety and prevent potential disturbances.

Jarange-Patil’s announcement of a protest outside Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s residence in Mumbai has stirred controversy. The activist has gone as far as accusing Fadnavis of attempting to harm him, although specific details regarding the alleged threat remain undisclosed.

To pre-emptively address the situation, Jalna District authorities, under Collector Srikrushna Panchal’s order, have imposed a curfew. The decision is primarily driven by concerns that individuals might converge on Antarwali Sarati village in Jalna, where Jarange-Patil is currently staging a hunger strike, with intentions to obstruct his march towards Mumbai.

Authorities also expressed apprehensions about potential disruptions to traffic on the Dhule-Mumbai highway and surrounding areas. To mitigate these concerns, the curfew, effective from Monday midnight, will persist until further notice.

However, certain essential services and activities have been exempted from the curfew restrictions. Government offices, schools, movement on national highways, milk distribution, media outlets, and hospitals will continue to operate, ensuring the least possible disruption to routine life.

Following the imposition of the curfew, Jarange-Patil returned to Antarwali Sarati after a brief departure to Bhamberi village. His actions and statements have not only triggered security measures but also prompted reactions from political figures.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde responded to Jarange-Patil’s accusations against Fadnavis, cautioning against repeated protests that might disrupt law and order. Shinde questioned the similarity between Jarange’s rhetoric and the political scripts commonly associated with figures like Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray.

The backdrop of this unrest is set against the backdrop of Shinde’s government approving the Maratha Reservation Bill on February 20. The bill, granting a 10% reservation in education and government jobs to the Maratha community, was expected to address longstanding demands. However, Jarange-Patil’s dissatisfaction led to a statewide agitation starting February 24.

The imposition of a curfew in Jalna district reflects the delicate balance authorities must strike between addressing genuine grievances and ensuring public safety. The evolving situation underscores the complexities surrounding reservation policies and the challenges in managing dissenting voices within the democratic framework.

Mobile Internet Services Suspended in Jalna, Beed, and Aurangabad Sambhajinagar Amid Maratha Reservation Tensions

In response to the escalating tensions surrounding the issue of Maratha reservation, authorities in Jalna, Beed, and Aurangabad Sambhajinagar districts have taken the precautionary measure of suspending mobile internet services. This decision comes amidst concerns over maintaining law and order in the regions.

The Maratha community, a significant socio-political group in Maharashtra, has been advocating for reservation in education and government jobs for quite some time. However, recent developments have reignited protests and demonstrations across various parts of the state, including Jalna, Beed, and Aurangabad.

The suspension of mobile internet services aims to prevent the spread of rumors and misinformation that could potentially exacerbate the situation. By temporarily limiting access to online platforms, authorities hope to contain the dissemination of inflammatory content and maintain public safety.
