Aurangabad Rickshaw

Aurangabad Rickshaw -More than 32,000 auto-rickshaw drivers staged a city-wide strike today, halting operations to protest various issues, pushing authorities for urgent action.

The absence of these rickshaws, a lifeline for many locals, threw the city into chaos and left commuters stranded.

With rickshaws off the streets, buses struggled to manage the sudden surge in passengers, forcing many to walk or pay steep fares for other transportation. Parents found it tough to get their kids to school amid the disruption.

The strike, organized by multiple rickshaw associations, began with a march from Mahavir Chowk to the divisional commissioner’s office. The drivers raised concerns, including repealing the hit and run act, setting up an independent rickshaw corporation, closing open licenses, and curbing Smart City bus operations in rural areas. They also demanded clear displays of fixed sharing rates.

The strike saw complete participation, with all rickshaws staying off the roads. Sheikh Latif, district president of the autorickshaw drivers-owners association joint action committee, mentioned a continuous sit-in protest in front of the divisional commissioner’s office since January 8.
